Immediate Care (First 2–3 Hours)
Refrain from chewing on the treated side while numbness persists to avoid accidentally biting your cheek or tongue. Apply ice packs to the area for 10–15 minute intervals, repeating hourly to minimize swelling.
Smoking Restrictions
For the first 24 hours, do not smoke, and minimize the number of times you smoke during recovery, as this can slow the healing process.
Oral Rinse Protocol
Frequent rinsing with warm salt water for 1–2 days after the procedure will aid the healing process.
Dietary Guidelines
- Maintain a soft food diet for 2–3 days after the procedure.
- Avoid chewing on the treated side.
- Skip extremely hot or cold food and beverages until healing progresses.
Chewing Recommendations
Whenever possible, chew on the opposite side of your mouth where treatment was not done until the permanent crown has been placed, since the temporary tooth may fracture easily.
Pain Management
Over-the-counter pain medication before bedtime may provide relief if discomfort continues.
Medication Compliance
If prescribed antibiotics, take them exactly as directed until the complete course is finished.
