Post-Care Instructions for Invisalign

Aligner Wear and Changes

Wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, only removing them for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing. Follow the aligner change schedule prescribed by Dr. Sidhu — typically every one to two weeks — without advancing early, even if an aligner starts to feel loose.

Oral Hygiene Guidelines

  • Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water, to prevent staining and damage.
  • Brush and floss after every meal before reinserting your aligners.
  • Clean aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and lukewarm water or mild soap — avoid toothpaste, bleach, or alcohol, which can damage or cloud them.
  • Store aligners in the provided case whenever they’re not in your mouth.

Managing Discomfort

Some initial soreness is normal when starting a new aligner and typically resolves within a few days. To ease discomfort:

  • Take over-the-counter pain medication as needed.
  • Stick to soft foods for the first day or two.
  • Apply orthodontic wax to any spots of irritation.
  • Use a cold compress to reduce swelling.
